To make a field on a template optional, go to Settings and then Matter Types (Templates) & Matter Setup. After clicking on the template requiring modification, make sure the Use checkbox is checked next to the field in question under the Field Options heading. Change the selection in the Required Of column to Not Required and then Save & Close.
